Causes of Additional Needs
Understanding the reasons why individuals may have additional needs is an important part of this unit...
The main reasons fall under the following categories:
Genetic
Developmental
Environmental
Accidents
In small groups you are going to research one of the causes - you will share this with the rest of the group and it will be used for a piece of work which is coming up.
1) Give an overview of the cause - explaining why it may occur
2) Give at least 3 examples of a disability which is caused by this reason (include photos)
(Include any references you use)
You will add your answers to your group's padlet page. This can be accessed at any point using your groups link....
Start to produce a professional document outlining in detail why individuals may experience additional needs - imagine you have been asked by your placement supervisor to produce some literature for your colleagues which will educate them about the additional needs some individuals may have.
Include in your professional document: Why are the following causes? Give an overview and some examples Genetic Developmental Environmental Accidents What is meant by the following additional needs? Give an overview and some examples Physical Cognitive Sensory
You will add more to your professional document over the next few weeks....
Possible set up: Introduction - this leaflet is going to educate you further about individuals with additional needs blah blah Additional needs/disabilities can be caused by many factors this leaflet will explore these. A page for each cause including photos etc.: Genetic What is meant by this? An example of a disability caused by this factor. As a result of this disability individuals may have the following additional needs: Sensory* - Cognitive* - Physical* - Repeat this for each of the causes.
*say somewhere what these terms actually mean e.g. cognitive = brain = mental processing
